Claudio Battaglin, President
Claudio works in marketing for Bayer HealthCare's pharmaceutical division. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from McMaster University with a major in Biology and minor in Psychology. He followed this with a Masters in Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business (York University), graduating with distinction and specializing in Marketing and Strategic Management. Claudio has also been chairing the Quality Assurance committee and has been involved with Community Living York South since he was 15 years of age. Over the last 16 years, he has spent considerable time in a number of roles with York South, beginning as a social club coordinator and continuing his involvement as a summer camp facilitator, Community Support Coordinator, mediator and Youth Involvement delegate. Claudio has also volunteered at the Provincial and Federal levels of Community Living. He is the former President of Youth Involvement Ontario, as well as a former Board Member of Community Living Ontario. He was also the youngest elected member of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Association for Community Living (CACL). He was a member of the CACL education committee and has travelled across Canada, advocating for the inclusion of youth with developmental disabilities in their schools, work, and other aspects of their communities.

Louis Laskovski, Past President
Louis is a lawyer with Stong Blackburn Machon Bohm. He obtained his bachelor of economics degree with distinction from York University and his law degree from the University of Western Ontario. Louis’s practice is focussed on business law issues. He has extensive experience in advising private corporations with respect to legal aspects surrounding the operation of their business. Louis has extensive experience in drafting a wide variety of business agreements including shareholders’ agreements, distribution and franchising agreements, and both asset and share purchase and sale agreements. Louis regularly acts in connection with small and medium size acquisitions, sales, mergers, amalgamations and divestitures and regularly advises clients on tax issues and in the negotiation of major commercial agreements.

Peter Sen, 1st Vice President
Peter is a single parent with a teenage son who has severe autism. Peter shared the vision of Community Living to help individuals with intellectual disabilities to live and work in the community. He also believes that love is the drive and innovation is the key in motivating himself in doing the volunteer work. Peter was educated in Canada. He has an MBA from the University of Toronto with a Mechanical Engineering degree from McGill. He has extensive experience in banking and finance in Canada and Asia. Formerly Peter was the EVP of a Motorcycle Group company in China and had directorship in various companies. Currently Peter is a Mortgage Manager with Mortgage Alliance Primal Financial. Peter has been with Community Living York South’s board since June 2005. He has also chaired the Community Development Committee. Peter is also the President of the Heep Chi Association, the largest Chinese parent group in the GTA aiming to support families with developmentally challenged members.

Brendon Pooran, 2nd Vice President
Brendon practices law at Baker Law in Toronto and works with a human services consulting firm based in the United States.  He attained his Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree at Queen's University and his Bachelor of Laws degree from Osgoode Hall Law School.  Prior to entering the law profession, Brendon worked as a management consultant in the public policy arena throughout the eastern United States.  He currently sits on the Board of Directors at the Canadian Abilities Foundation and Community Living York South.

Ed Law, Treasurer
Born in Hong Kong, Ed attended university and worked in the United States, immigrating to Canada in 1982.  Three years later Ed became a Canadian citizen.  He is married with three children and currently resides in Unionville. Ed received his Master of Engineering degree from the University of Texas-Arlington and is an active member of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers. Ed is employed in a technical and management capacity with companies in both Canada and the United States, his last employer being Northern Telecom Inc. Ed started his own company Business & Office Centro Inc. in 1991 and continues to serve the print communication market today. Cooking and movies are Ed's hobbies.  He is also a registered coach with Coaching Association of Canada. Currently he coaches a boy's REP team with the York South Silver Knights Basketball Club.

Vera Power, Secretary of the Board
Vera has a Master of Social Work degree. She previously worked with intellectual disabled children and young adults (in the care of the Children's Aid Society) and their families/foster parents for nine years. Vera currently works in the Mental Health Program of a large community hospital, has a private counseling practice and teaches counseling practice skills at George Brown College. Vera is a single parent with two daughters who are both attending university. She is also a dedicated daughter who is caring for her elderly father.
