Passport Initiative: New Funding for Community Participation Supports
The Passport program is a new Ministry of Community & Social Services initiative that assists individuals with an intellectual disability who have left school or have been waiting for service and are in need of community participation supports.
Through this program individuals and/or families have the option of receiving funding directly allocated to them to purchase community participation supports services or access services through community agencies. For example, fee for service programs.
The deadline for this year's Passport program applications is April 15, 2008.
If you require assistance with completing your application or are in need of further information about the program, please contact one of your local Community Support Coordinators.
Local Hero - Difficult Life
On March 6, 2006, the fifth estate presented a film on Elwood Battist, who lived at Rideau Regional Hospital School from 1955 - 1990. Elwood is now an integral part of the Smith Falls community where he lives. See the fifth estate web site for more background and the complete film.
Community Living Ontario Welcomes Court Decision
Community Living Ontario welcomes the court decision issued today (Thursday January 26, 2006) that allows the Ministry of Community and Social Services to proceed with closing institutions by 2009 as planned.
"We're pleased that the decision to close these institutions has been upheld. Our society is moving on from segregated care to a model of natural, inclusive supports that considers and respects the individual as a citizen of the community," said Keith Powell, executive director of Community Living Ontario.
Community Living York South applauds the decision and looks forward to welcoming individuals moving back into the southern area of York Region.
