Best Buddies and e-Buddies

Charitable organizations dedicated to enhancing our communities through in-person (Best Buddies) or online pen pal (e-Buddies) friendships between people who have an intellectual disability and students.

Character Community Initiative in York Region

The municipalities of York Region are committed to keeping and enhancing our communities as places where families are strong, homes and streets are safe, education is effective, businesses are productive and neighbours care about one another.

Family Alliance Ontario

A Toronto-based association of people whose family member has a disability. They are dedicated to fostering the strength, stability, competence and knowledge.

Future Abilities and Creative Employment (FACE)

A coalition of people and organizations in York Region that addresses the barriers that can prevent people who have a disability from accessing employment services. The coalition has several committees with different initiatives.

Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC)

This committee is responsible for examining and reviewing educational policies and making recommendations to the York Region District Board of Education and the York Catholic District School Board. Parents of school-aged children are encouraged to join.

Special Services at Home Advisory Committee (SSAH-AC)

A forum for families to address topics related to respite services/options and Special Services at Home funding. This committee provides an opportunity to connect to families in York Region to one another, the Ministry of Community and Social Services, the Ministry of Children Services and other community-based social service agencies/resources.

Ontarians with Disabilities Act Committee (ODAC)

A non-partisan coalition whose members advocate for a strong “Ontarians with Disabilities Act” to eliminate current barriers in community life faced by people who have a disability.
